We are often asked by customers what they should have done after a spilling of tea, coffee, coke, wine etc.
More often than not they will have put a pile of kitchen roll down, jumped up and down on it to soak up the spill then scrub it with 1001 , Vanish or the like. They then are surprised when the stain reappears two or three days later. This happens because they have pushed the offending liquid into the backing of the carpet and the residue wicks up over the next few days.
What you could do is this:
Put some luke warm water with a little washing up liquid into a washing up bowl.
Blot and rinse the effected area using a large bath or car cleaning sponge until no further change is evident.
Throw a towel over the area and pat down GENTLY.
Leave overnight. (the liquid will be drawn up into the towel) nine times out of ten: No stain!
This is cheap, quick and effective.
